As a trauma survivor myself, I speak from the heart of personal experience. I was raped when I was 15 years old and was subsequently diagnosed with PTSD. The rest of my teen years and early adulthood were defined by that event, diagnosis, and everyone other than myself. It took me countless hours of therapy and years to understand what happened and its effect on every aspect of my life.
I had successfully completed many hours of therapy. I was better, I was healed, I had move on with my life. But I wasn't really living. I was reacting and not being true to myself. It wasn't until a friend introduced me to life coaching that I really understood the difference.

For once in my life I had someone ask me the right questions to help me understand all of the underlying thoughts and feelings that were subconsciously running my life. For the first time in my life I was figuring out who I really was and what I wanted my life to look like. And let me tell you, when I first met myself, I was so happy and proud of her. I finally got to meet me, after a lifetime of being hidden and ignored, I got to meet an inspiring, honest, loving, and amazing being. The colors in my world got brighter and I was excited when I woke up every morning. Dreams were no longer just a dream, they were adventures being pursued.
I have a bachelors in nursing and am certified as a trauma nurse, which has enabled me to bring one of my core values, empathy, to individuals on a daily basis. As the eldest of 6 children I have a natural instinct to help others. While my career in nursing progressed, I found myself wanting to do more. Every time I saw a patient leave the ER I knew that one way or another they were going to need a lot of help and it would take a long time for them to fully recover from the inside out. Unfortunately, our healthcare system tends to focus on the body alone, not the whole picture.
I chose to become a life coach so that I can support individuals become an active participant in their life as they work on discovering their true self and greatest possibilities. It is my aim to support the whole person, not just the body, as survivors redefine themselves, their values, goals, and life on their journey towards freedom.
